Retrospective Exposure Analyses

SWAPE reviews scientific literature prepared to estimate occupational exposures to diesel exhaust in various railway environments to estimate potential exposures to individual workers throughout their career. SWAPE determines the additional cancer risk incurred by that individual due to their diesel exhaust exposure to demonstrate a risk of injury. SWAPE also evaluates air monitoring data collected by defendant railways to better estimate occupational exposures to diesel exhaust and other air contaminants. Such additional air contaminants include asbestos, benzene, silica dust, and herbicides.

Railway Carrier Negligence

SWAPE reviews historical employee training documents and safety manuals provided by defendant railways to determine if employees were properly warned of the potential harms associated with their occupational exposures. SWAPE also prepares chronologies of facts regarding respective occupational contaminants which defendant railways should have been aware of, and determines if their warnings complied with the state of knowledge.
