Air Toxics / Modeling

SWAPE has extensive experience conducting ambient air testing, source testing, dispersion modeling, and odor analyses. We have conducted air pollution investigations at landfills, industrial facilities, refineries, gas stations, hazardous waste sites, dry cleaners, metal finishing shops, and biosolids and compost facilities. SWAPE Scientists conduct source testing and collect ambient air samples to evaluate the concentration of carcinogens, toxins, and odorants assuming child, adult and industrial receptors.

SWAPE scientists use vapor intrusion models to estimate human exposure to contaminants in homes and businesses, conduct flux chambers studies to estimate exposure to residents near contaminated sites, and collect meteorological data with weather stations and data loggers for use in air dispersion models to better estimate child and adult exposure to environmental contaminants. SWAPE has experience performing air dispersion modeling using the following EPA models and packages:

  • AERMOD
  • ISC3
  • SCREEN3

SWAPEscientists typically collect air samples for a variety of contaminants using USEPA, OSHA, and ASTM analytical methods. Following is a list of analytes that have been measured at numerous project locations by SWAPE:

  • Volatile Organic Compounds
  • Carboxylic Acids
  • Sulfur compounds
  • Ammonia
  • Ketones & Aldehydes
  • Odorants
  • Methane
  • Asbestos
